Repurposed Table #3

This is my third repurposed table and I am getting more proficient and faster with each table.
This  table started with a cabinet door that my daughter found for me. The one I used was not painted but I forgot to take a picture of the one I used before the table was assembled.

I found the base at Goodwill. I think it had been a knick knack shelving unit during the 1980's. It was the perfect size for the cabinet door.

I got the legs that I used from the Restore in Beaumont, Texas.  They were from a taller table but I cut them down to the right height for this table

I attached the cabinet door to the base with screws and glue.

I painted the base brown and started painting a chevron on the top. I found that I did not like painting the chevron pattern.  Half way through I decided I did not want to finish the design.

I finished it off with a dark wax.

Goodwill Hunting Dos

I have been blogging so often about the wonderful, junky finds that come from the Restore that I have not shown much love to Goodwill.  I love to go to Goodwill.  They have such a wide variety of good junk just waiting to be given a second chance.  Not long ago I found this wonderful find.  It is solid wood and had been painted pink and blue with a goose on the child (think 1985).  Yesterday I decided it was it's turn to get a makeover.  I painted with my favorite red.  I can't tell you the color name.  I took an old Ralph Lauren sweater to Lowes and they mixed this red for me.  I call it Ralph Lauren Red.  I think I went with red because it looks like fall.  When I tire of it in front of the fireplace I plan on using it to store sewing notions.  It would also make a cute tool box.  Thanks again Goodwill, you made my day!

Repurposed Bed Post

This is the top of a bed post that was found on trash day.  When originally found it was about 5 feet tall.  I cut it into parts and made a couple of fun projects with it.  It had been left out in the rain and was cracked and chippy.  The top part which you see repurposed here was so junky and cracked that I decided to screw it to a platform, add a little paint and just celebrate its funkiness.  It is 30 inches tall.
I don't create many things that I don't plan on parting with at some point.  This may be the exception to that rule.
This is a closeup of its cracked, split, chippy wonderfulness.  I love trash day.  By the way trash day is tomorrow.  As I was driving around today I saw a few great finds.  I was with the one who thinks the garage is full of finds.  I may have to go out early in the morning to "get cat food".  It is not hording if you have a positive flow of your junk. Right????

Goodwill Hunting

During Spring Break I visited a Goodwill store near my home.  They had lots of small items on sale.
I found this beauty and with the discount it cost $.25. Yes, only a quarter.  It was stained and had a large apple and checkerboard painted on it.  At some point it had a lid but it was long gone by the time we found each other. It is 12 inches wide and 10 inches high. It would be perfect on a desk or in a bathroom.  This was such a quick project because all I did was sand off the apple and other painting, prime and paint it.  It had holes at the top on each side.  I left the holes so someone could easily hang it with cute ribbon.  The hardware I added to the front was extras from another project.  I added a bow.  I have no idea why I tied a bow on it.  I may remove it but it just seemed right that it had a bow for it's first photo.  The cat was not included in the photo because she is under her bush trying to take out the entire lizard population of Texas.  So far the lizards have nothing to fear.  She has been chasing them for a year and has only caught one.
When you are in the junking mood don't forget Goodwill.  They help many in our community.

For the Love of the Trunk

I recently bought an old wooden footlocker at a garage sale that looked a lot like this one except someone had painted it brown over the original green.  I love wooden boxes. I have been looking for a footlocker, trunk or wooden box to put between the bookshelves in the man cave.  When I originally bought this box it was because the women running the garage sale was upset because she had not had any customers or made any sales.  I bought the box and once I had it home decided it needed to be painted red.  After it was painted red I decided it needed legs.  I went to Pinterest and looked a many trunks which had legs added.  These are a couple that inspired me.

I found a set of legs at my favorite thrift store and added them to the trunk.  I love it now and it is in the man cave and full of quilts to keep us warm when watching movies.
Finished and adorned with the cat!
Without the cat which is a rare sight at our house!

Love The Owl

I finished this recently. An old spindle I got in Galveston, Texas while shopping with the family. The owl came from Hobby Lobby and I love it! This would be cute by the door or on the patio with a mason jar candle hanging from it.

Pinterest Made Me Do It!

Not long ago I saw a post on Pinterest that made me want to create.  It was these lovely food servers that looked like they had been made out of spindles.  I love the shabby chic look of the table.  I obsessed over the picture for weeks and then one night I started creating.  I love those nights when I am home alone and no one cares if I create at 1am.

I went to my wonderful garage and found lost of parts.  After all the the drilling, sanding and the glue was dry this is what I had made.

The next day I could not work fast enough so I could come home and create even more.

Now it was time for the primer and paint.  I primed and then added a coat of white.

The final product does not look quite as good as the Pinterest inspiration, but it is close.  Mine need some staging with delicious food, a lovely table cloth, flowers, and china.  Today this is as good as it is going to get.  School is almost out and when things calm down and I am bored I will post a picture of mine staged.  And as always this blog is Lizzie approved!  I had to bribe her to get into the picture.

For The Love of Suitcases!

I love vintage suitcases.

I found this great suitcase at my favorite thrift store recently.  The base came from a garage sale for less than a dollar. The label on the front bothers me but I have not decided what to do with it. I am so jealous of the pictures I see on other blogs and on pinterest.  I tried to "stage" this picture but it is still a work in progress.

This creation went to live at its new home this weekend.

Dumpster Thursday

This is a bookshelf I found on trash day. It was  homemade  and probably storage from someone's garage.

The back they had put on the shelves was thick and uneven.  I wanted to cover it with trim.

The front also needed some trim.  I had four spindles and was too lazy to go to the store to buy trim.  I used the spindles to trim out the edges.

I liked how the spindles worked with the shelves.  The cat seems to like it also.

Green Table

I  have always loved the two toned look. My mom had a tan and brown colored blocked car coat (is that still a word?) when I was young and I loved the way it looked on her. I have been working on a repurposed table this week and I wanted to make it two toned. This is what it looked like as I meditated on how to paint it. I wanted it to be painted in two colors but I could not get the look I wanted. I finally painted it green and I love it. I think it would make a nice small potting table for a patio.

This table is made from an upside down drawer and four  spindles  for legs.
This picture was taken while I was still trying to paint it two toned!
