Another Drawer Redo

This is the first drawer I bought at a Restore.  I have finished several drawer redos but this one I could not get the vision of what it wanted to be.  After a 3am Pinterest search I found some inspiration.

Buy Newark Multi Drawer Cubby from the Next UK online shopLabeled Cubby StorageThese beauties were the inspiration for what I finally did.  I am a true beginner and these were out of my comfort zone.  Maybe with some more experience I can create a masterpiece like these two.

I had a really difficult time getting the shelf level.  I measured, and measured and measured some more.  I finally got it level and attached.  I glued it in and then added small screws from each side.  That shelf is not moving.  I had originally planned on dividing each shelf perpendicularly.  I have to be honest I probably need some more practice before that happens.  I did not like how unfinished it looked at this point.
It needed something else and since cubbies were
out of my skill I added some trim.
This is after the trim was added.  I like it much better now.
I painted it white and then want to add a little extra color.
The orange and white paper that is behind the shelves in the
picture is just paper wrapped around foam board.  I like the
look so much that I am thinking about making it permanent.
I am going to hang it on the wall in the kitchen.  When I get it hung
                                         I will post more pictures.

Repurposed Bed Post

This is the top of a bed post that was found on trash day.  When originally found it was about 5 feet tall.  I cut it into parts and made a couple of fun projects with it.  It had been left out in the rain and was cracked and chippy.  The top part which you see repurposed here was so junky and cracked that I decided to screw it to a platform, add a little paint and just celebrate its funkiness.  It is 30 inches tall.
I don't create many things that I don't plan on parting with at some point.  This may be the exception to that rule.
This is a closeup of its cracked, split, chippy wonderfulness.  I love trash day.  By the way trash day is tomorrow.  As I was driving around today I saw a few great finds.  I was with the one who thinks the garage is full of finds.  I may have to go out early in the morning to "get cat food".  It is not hording if you have a positive flow of your junk. Right????

Goodwill Hunting

During Spring Break I visited a Goodwill store near my home.  They had lots of small items on sale.
I found this beauty and with the discount it cost $.25. Yes, only a quarter.  It was stained and had a large apple and checkerboard painted on it.  At some point it had a lid but it was long gone by the time we found each other. It is 12 inches wide and 10 inches high. It would be perfect on a desk or in a bathroom.  This was such a quick project because all I did was sand off the apple and other painting, prime and paint it.  It had holes at the top on each side.  I left the holes so someone could easily hang it with cute ribbon.  The hardware I added to the front was extras from another project.  I added a bow.  I have no idea why I tied a bow on it.  I may remove it but it just seemed right that it had a bow for it's first photo.  The cat was not included in the photo because she is under her bush trying to take out the entire lizard population of Texas.  So far the lizards have nothing to fear.  She has been chasing them for a year and has only caught one.
When you are in the junking mood don't forget Goodwill.  They help many in our community.

For the Love of the Trunk

I recently bought an old wooden footlocker at a garage sale that looked a lot like this one except someone had painted it brown over the original green.  I love wooden boxes. I have been looking for a footlocker, trunk or wooden box to put between the bookshelves in the man cave.  When I originally bought this box it was because the women running the garage sale was upset because she had not had any customers or made any sales.  I bought the box and once I had it home decided it needed to be painted red.  After it was painted red I decided it needed legs.  I went to Pinterest and looked a many trunks which had legs added.  These are a couple that inspired me.

I found a set of legs at my favorite thrift store and added them to the trunk.  I love it now and it is in the man cave and full of quilts to keep us warm when watching movies.
Finished and adorned with the cat!
Without the cat which is a rare sight at our house!

Restore (Habitat For Humanity) Love!

Restore Love!

We are on vacation and having a great time. We have done all the usual vacation things: the beach, a massage, swimming, and our favorite mall. As a compulsive crafter we also went to a Habitat For Humanity Restore(to find a store near you: http://www.habitat.org/restores . Not everyone on vacation with me thought this was a must vacation stop! I bought a box of spindles and two drawers. I would have gotten more but  the car packing guru (commonly known as my husband) would have protested. Now I can't wait to get home and start creating.

Summer Quilt

I have had many projects that took me a long time to complete but this quilt is the winner.  The quilt was started over twenty years ago and finished last year.  I moved it unfinished to California, Texas, West Virginia, Mississippi, back to Texas, back to West Virginia and finally back to Texas.  I kept it safe and every summer meant to finish it.  In the last five years I have begun quilting again.  Last spring I finally finished the quilt.  I started it for my daughter when she was in kindergarten.  She finally got it when she was 26!  Some things are worth the wait.
This is the back of the quilt.  I love large stars.  I plan to make another large star quilt soon.

My daughters blog has lots of great quilts.

Love The Owl

I finished this recently. An old spindle I got in Galveston, Texas while shopping with the family. The owl came from Hobby Lobby and I love it! This would be cute by the door or on the patio with a mason jar candle hanging from it.
